If there is anything easier than riding a bicycle, it is probably adjusting the bike seat. You can surely do it, even without your toolbox. Just loosen the bolt holding the seat, adjust its height and position, tighten the bolt and you’re done. However, there are cases when the seat becomes hard to adjust due top the presence of rust. It’s still not much of a problem, though. Ample amounts of lubricating oil should do the trick.
Materials Used:
- allen keys
- lubricating oil (if necessary)
Step 1: Purchase Allen Keys for the Bike Seat
Allen keys are small wrenches that are made to attach and loosen bolts with patterned heads. The wrenches, coming in different sizes, are used mainly to adjust bicycle seat bolts. You can find a set at any hardware store at affordable prices. It’s a a good investment, especially of you own more than one bicycle type.
Step 2: Use an Allen Key to Loosen the Seat Bolt
Try your set of Allen keys on the bolt just below the bike seat and find which key fits the bolt’s pattern. Upon finding the key, use it to loosen the bolt. Apply lubricating oil on the bolt if it won’t budge.
Step 3: Adjust the Seat
Determine the right height for your bike seat. Ideally, your knee should be slightly arched when your foot is on the pedal. Move the seat to your desired height and position. If the seat does not budge, apply lubricating oil.
Step 4: Tighten the Seat Bolt
When the bike seat has been adjusted, return the bolt to its placed. Use an Allen key to tighten the bolt. You can apply lubricating oil on the bolt and the grooves to enforce free flowing movement, in case there is rust. Dont forget to check if the seat is firmly affixed. Loose seats can cause accidents.
Seat Adjustment is a Requirement
Knowing how to adjust a bike seat is a requirement when riding bikes. A well-positioned seat promotes proper riding posture, which eases pressure on your back and legs. It can also increase your speed, since your legs are not hindered or strained by their position. Just refer to this procedure whenever you feel the seat is hindering you from a good riding experience.
